Pune: NCL PhD Scholar Found Brutally Murdered At Sus Khind

Pashan, 27 February 2021: A young man pursuing his PhD at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pashan, was found murdered at Sus Khind today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sudarshan alias Balya Baburao Pandit (30), a resident of Shivnagar in Sutarwadi. He was a native of Janephal in Jafrabad taluka of Jalna district. Pandit’s cousin Sandeep (34) has lodged a complaint at Chatushrungi police station under Pune city police.

Accordingly, police have registered an FIR against an unknown person for offences under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to police, Sudarshan was doing his PhD in Chemistry at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL). He had come to Pune a year and a half ago for his PhD. He was staying as a paying guest in Sutarwadi. Around 8.30 am, some people who had gone for a walk in the Sus Khind area saw his body in a pool of blood and informed the police. Chatushrungi police officials rushed to the spot.

Police said that Pandit’s clothes were removed. His face was crushed with stones and his throat was slit. His pant was thrown nearby and his wallet was found in the pocket. Police identified him from the documents in the wallet. The motive behind Pandit’s murder could not be ascertained yet, said Police Inspector (Crime) Dadasaheb Gaikwad, who is investigating the case.
