Pune: Negligence and Mismanagement Plague Pune’s Barate Hospital in Warje, Citizens Demand Immediate Action
Warje, 28th July 2025: Mounting complaints over poor hygiene, disorganized services, and blatant administrative neglect have put Barate Hospital in Warje under sharp scrutiny. Situated in the Ganpati Matha area, the Late Prithak Barate Hospital, once a trusted municipal healthcare facility, has now become a symbol of civic apathy, according to frustrated residents and civic activists.
In terms of hygiene, the scenes from inside the hospital have revealed shocking conditions. What should be a clean and functional dressing room was found littered with broken umbrellas, piles of unused papers, and general waste. The sight has left many questioning whether patient care is truly a priority.
Even more concerning was the condition of the ‘Hirakani Kaksha’, a designated nursing room meant to provide a safe and private space for breastfeeding mothers. Instead, it currently serves as a makeshift storeroom, cluttered with old equipment, including a defunct refrigerator. The blatant repurposing of such a critical facility has angered local families who rely on the hospital.
“This kind of mismanagement was unheard of when Dr. Pranali Vetal was overseeing operations. She maintained order and accountability. The current staff, however, appears careless and disconnected,” said a local resident.
“This is not just inefficiency—it’s a health hazard. The PMC must take ownership before things spiral further,” another concerned resident said.
The hospital’s deteriorating condition has prompted angry demands for immediate intervention by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Citizens are calling for a detailed inspection, appropriate disciplinary measures, and urgent steps to restore essential medical services.
