Kothrud, 18th July 2026: The family of Nikita Garje, who sustained grievous injuries in a road accident involving a dumper truck, has opposed the bail plea of the accused driver, alleging a lack of support from the police during the investigation. The family has urged the court to reject the bail application and keep the accused in judicial custody until the trial concludes.

The accident occurred on July 4 at around 8 pm near Kelewadi Signal on Paud Road in Kothrud, when Nikita, her husband Ramakant Garje, and their two-and-a-half-year-old son were travelling on a two-wheeler. According to the FIR, a 12-wheel dumper allegedly rammed their vehicle from behind before the driver fled the scene. While the child escaped with minor injuries, Nikita suffered multiple grievous injuries and remains under treatment at Sahyadri Hospital.

An FIR has been registered against the dumper driver under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Family Seeks Rejection of Bail

The victim’s family said they are determined to ensure that the accused is not granted bail, arguing that his release could adversely affect the case and deny justice to the victim.
Speaking to the media, Nikita’s mother, Sangeeta Ambure, said the family has been left to fight alone while her daughter continues her battle for recovery.

“My daughter is still battling for her life in the hospital. Every day is a struggle for her and for our family. We request the court to reject the accused’s bail plea. He should remain in jail until justice is delivered.”

Family Alleges Police Apathy

Sangeeta Ambure also alleged that the family has received little support from the police since the accident.

“Instead of standing with us, the police have not cooperated with our family. We have repeatedly approached them, but we have not received the help we expected. We feel completely helpless while my daughter continues to suffer in the hospital.”

She further alleged that some police personnel behaved discourteously with the family, leaving them disheartened while pursuing the case.
“We are already facing emotional and financial hardship. At such a difficult time, we expected support from the police. Instead, we felt neglected. We only want a fair investigation and justice for my daughter.”

Brother Demands Fair Investigation

Nikita’s brother, Abhijit Ambure, said the family is seeking a fair investigation and justice for the victim.

“My sister is fighting for recovery every single day. Our only demand is that the accused should not be granted bail. We also request the police to conduct a fair investigation and support the victim’s family instead of making us struggle for justice.”

Mounting Medical Expenses

According to the family, Nikita has undergone multiple surgeries and continues to require specialised treatment. They said the accident has imposed a severe financial burden, with medical expenses continuing to escalate.
The family has appealed to the prosecution to strongly oppose the bail application and ensure that the accused remains in custody while the investigation and trial are underway. They maintain that ensuring accountability and justice for the victim should remain the foremost priority.
