Pune News: Rs 75 Crore Flyover Approved to Fix Shimla Office, Sancheti Chowk Traffic
Shivajinagar, 3rd February 2026: In an effort to decongest University Road, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to construct a new Y-shaped multi-level flyover near the Agriculture College junction. The project aims to ease persistent traffic bottlenecks at Shimla Office Chowk and Sancheti Hospital Chowk, which have worsened due to metro infrastructure occupying parts of the carriageway.
The PMC is already constructing a multi-level flyover at Pune University Chowk as part of its broader plan to reduce congestion along University Road. Although the road has been widened to 45 metres, the presence of metro stations and pillars at Shimla Office and Sancheti Hospital junctions has created severe choke points at both locations. Officials fear traffic will worsen further once the University Chowk flyover becomes operational.
To address this, the civic body has proposed a new Y-shaped flyover that will divert vehicles coming from the University side via Agriculture College Chowk directly towards the old Pune–Mumbai highway and Sangamwadi. The flyover will pass above the underpass near Natawadi and will start from the Sugar Complex (Sakhar Sankul) area.
The project is estimated to cost around ₹75 crore and has already received approval from the PMC’s Standing Committee. According to officials from the PMC’s project department, the tendering process will be initiated soon.
Civic officials believe the new flyover will significantly ease congestion at Shimla Office and Sancheti Hospital junctions and improve overall traffic flow on one of Pune’s busiest corridors.
