Pune: Nidhish Shyamal, Kiyanna Parihaar national champion at 37th National Under 9 Chess Championships
Pune, 2nd January 2025: Nidish Shyamal of Telangana and Kiyanna Parihar of Rajasthan won the 37th National Under 9 Open & Girls Chess Championship organised by Maharashtra Chess Association under the auspices of FIDE, AICF and played at the Boxing Hall, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune.
In the girls group match, Rajasthan’s Kiana Parihar defeated Gujarat’s Ashwi Singh to win the title with 10 points. Kiana started the innings in the Indian style and defeated Ashwi in 66 moves . Kiana is studying in the fourth standard at MDS Senior Secondary School. Earlier, she won the title at the Asian Youth Championship in UAE in 2023.
In the open category, Nidhish Shyamal of Telangana defeated Oshik Mondal of West Bengal by 9.5 points (80.5 Bukols average) to clinch the top spot. Nidhish started his innings in the Queen’s Indian style and defeated Oshik in 63 moves. Nidhish is a student of class 5 at Edify School and practices at Maestro Chess Academy under the guidance of coach Amit Pal Singh. Earlier, in 2022, he won the National Chess Championship for Under-7s in Ahmedabad.
The Open Group winner Nidhish Shyamal got trophy and Rs.50,000/-,while Runner up Aarit Kapil received trophy and Rs. 36,000/- . The Girls Group winner Kiyanna Parihaar got trophy and Rs.50,000/- ,while Runner up Divi Bijesh received trophy and Rs.36,000/-. The prizes were given away at the hands of Mr. Nitin Narang, President of AICF, Mr. Manish Kumar, Joint Secretary of AICF, GM Abhijit Kunte. Mr. Siddharth Mayur, Working President of MCA, Mr.Niranjan Godbole, Secretary of Maharashtra Chess Association, Mr. Vilas Mhatre, Treasurer of MCA, Mr. Hemant Wandekar of Sakal Group, IA Manjunatha M of Karnataka, Chief Arbiter, IA Atharva Godbole, Deputy arbiter were present on the occasion.
