Pune: Nine Accused Arrested From Bengaluru For Cheating And Threats Through Loan App

Pune, 29th September 2022: Stories of citizens being threatened through loan apps continue to emerge. Pune Cyber police has arrested nine people from Bengaluru in the case of threatening a woman and demanding extortion of Rs 1.11 lakh from her.

Vignesh Manjunath, Ganesh Subbaraidu, Akash M. V., Shraddha Sudhakar Gowda, Parvati Santosh Das, Ashwini D Murugan, Shilpa Subhash Gowda, Priya S., Deepika L were arrested (all residents of Bengaluru). A case has been registered against them under the Cyber Police Station for extortion, fraud, defamation, intimidation and Information-Technology Act. A 30-year-old woman has filed a complaint in this regard.

The accused contacted the mobile number of the complainant woman and asked her to download the loan app. The woman did not need a loan. However, the accused sanctioned her loan through the loan app and started threatening her with interest. They demanded a ransom of Rs 1.11 lakh from the woman by threatening to alter her photograph and publish it on social media. The accused had stolen the information from the woman’s mobile phone. they started threatening her by misusing this information. After the woman lodged a complaint with the police, they began an investigation. After that, nine people were arrested in Bengaluru.

The incident of a young man in the city attempting suicide due to a loan app dispute occurred recently. Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta had ordered action after taking cognizance of the increasing complaints against Loan App. Police arrested nine people from Bangalore in a loan app case. This is the first major action taken by the Pune Police in the loan app case.

The police suspect that the accused have threatened many people and extorted ransom from them from data found on their phones. The court ordered the accused to be kept in police custody till 9th October.

The accused were running a call centre in Bengaluru. They used to tell citizens to download LoanApp. After downloading the loan app, it has been reported that citizens are being threatened by stealing personal information.
