Pune, 4th November 2023: Dr. Sanjeev Thakur, the dean of the state government-run Sassoon General Hospital, has underscored that the hospital’s management, including the medical superintendent, possesses complete authority over its operations. He emphasized that a doctor’s primary responsibility is to provide medical treatment to patients, making it unlikely for any doctor to be involved in the escape of the drug dealer Lalit Patil.

During an interview with news channel TV9 Marathi, Thakur refrained from making definitive comments on various allegations made in this case.

Thakur stated, “Many accused individuals, like Lalit Patil, come to our hospital after being referred from jails. No doctor has ever been involved in their escape. Accusations require evidence. Our primary responsibility is to ensure that every patient receives proper medical care. There is no doctor’s involvement in the escape of Lalit Patil or any financial interests.”

Addressing questions about Patil receiving preferential treatment or communication from a minister for VIP treatment, Thakur clarified, “No political leader has contacted me. The accused did not receive VIP treatment. Nurses are present to attend to the patients, and the police are in charge of the patient’s custody.”

Meanwhile, Patil has been remanded in police custody until November 7, following action taken against him under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) by the Pune City Police.
