Pune 21st August 2023: The state government has informed the high court that the final notification to exclude Phursungi and Uruli Devachi villages from the Pune Municipal Corporation limit has not been issued yet and further process will be carried out following the rules. A petition in this regard was filed before the high court claiming that the urban development department and the municipal corporation had not consulted the villagers before issuing a proclamation and draft notification for excluding villages from the municipal limits.

It may be noted that the state government had issued a notification of demerger of these two villages from the limits of Municipal Corporation and has announced to form a seperate municipal council. The decision was taken after the former MLA of the area Vijay Shivtare met the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde along with several villagers and demanded to form a seperate municipal council for Phursungi and Uruli Devachi.

The petitioners have referred to another judgement of the high court delivered in a similar matter related to Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation. It was claimed that the state government has violated the high court order. The High court had also asked a clarification from the government by asking whether they are going to withdraw the notification on the demerger.
