Pune: No Teachers, No Future? PMC School in Bopodi Faces Crisis Amid High Enrolment
Bopodi, 10th July 2025: A growing teacher shortage at PMC-run Late Patasiba Chhajed E-Learning English Medium School in Bopodi has sparked concern among parents and civic activists. Despite a high student enrollment, the school continues to face a severe shortage of teaching staff, raising fears of increased student dropouts.
Frustrated by the lack of action despite repeated complaints to the school administration, concerned parents approached Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. Responding to the call, AAP Women’s Wing Vice President Anne Anish and Organization Minister Vikas Chavan led a site inspection at the school along with City President of AAP Teachers’ Wing Shital Vishwanath Kandelkar and City Vice President Shankar Thorat.
Taking note of the situation, the AAP delegation—accompanied by parents Anjali Santosh Dighe, Vilas More, Santosh Dighe, and Pawan Mittal—visited the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Education Department and met with Deputy Commissioner of Primary Education Vijaykumar Thorat.
A formal memorandum was submitted, demanding the immediate deployment of teachers at the school to address the staffing gap and stem the rising dropout rate.
“One teacher will be appointed immediately, and the recruitment process for contractual teachers is currently underway,” assured Vijaykumar Thorat.
“We are also working on filling permanent teaching positions soon,” he added.
AAP has warned the civic administration that if the issue remains unresolved, the party will launch a city-wide campaign, visiting all PMC-run schools to assess conditions and protest against the shortage of teaching staff.
