Pune: Now PMC Allows Shops To Remain Open From 9 AM TO 9 PM
Pune, October 9, 2020: After receiving demands from various quarters including the Federation of Trade Association of Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the working hours for shops ahead of the festive season. Earlier, due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the city, the timings for the shops were till 7 pm.
PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar today issued an order stating that the shops outside the containment zones will be allowed to open from 9 am to 9 pm. However, theatres (cinema halls) will not be allowed to open in malls/shopping complexes. Those violating the order will be prosecuted for an offence under 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The traders association had given a letter to government authorities earlier stating that from October 17, the festive season of Hindus will start with festivals such as Dusshera and Diwali. This festive season often involves shopping for various things which continues till Diwali. Since a lot of people who are working professionals and can spare time for shopping only in the evening, therefore the shopping timing should be extended till 9 pm.
The letter further stated that since restaurants are allowed to operate till 10 pm, hence the operational hours for all the shops should be extended to 9 pm from October 17.
