Pune, June 12, 2020: After intensifying anti spitting drives, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has now decided to set up a ‘flying squad.’ This exclusive squad will be roaming within the city and collect a fine of 1000 rupees on the spot.

With the cases of COVID-19 spiking up, PMC has come to realize that citizens are not yet serious. Therefore, spitting in public places, not wearing a face mask, not following social distancing will be taken seriously, and the Municipal Corporation is considering action against such people. According to the provision, a fine of 1000 rupees and one-day social service will have to be done. Earlier, the penalty was Rs 150.

“Those who spit and smoke in public places will now have to pay hefty fines as the COVID-19 is transmitted through saliva. People should follow the guidelines. We have started imposing penalty on people,” informed Madhav Jagtap, Head of Encroachment Department, PMC.
