Pune: Now You Can Buy Petrol, Diesel without any Pass/ID card, But Need Police Permission to Drive Vehicle

Pune, May 6, 2020: Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram has issued a new order today stating that all the petrol pumps, except those in containment zones, shall sell petrol, diesel to people without asking for any pass or identity card. Petrol, diesel will be sold from 7 am to 7 pm in Pune district.

 

This new rule is applicable in all areas except containment zones in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Khadki, Dehuroad, Pune cantonments, Zilha Parishad, Municipal Councils in Pune district. However, petrol pumps on highways have to adhere to guidelines given by the government from time to time.

 

Yesterday District Collector Ram had issued an order to sale petrol, diesel to people who have been issued passes by Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune City police, Pimpri Chinchwad police, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and District Collector’s Office. “Petrol and diesel should be supplied to the vehicles by taking into account the transport passes issued to the vehicles for essential and other service concessions. The identity cards/passes given by the government and semi-government agencies are also valid to get petrol, diesel”, the order stated. But this rule has been now changed and people can buy petrol, diesel without any pass.

Meanwhile, the central government has announced a huge hike of Rs 10 per litre on special excise duty on petrol and Rs 13 per litre on diesel. The good news for the general public is that it will not affect the retail prices of these products. The fee increase made by the Center is effective from today May 6, 2020.

Ali Daruwala, the spokesperson of the All India Petrol Dealers Association, said, “Now people in Pune district can buy petrol, diesel without showing any pass or ID card. Also, hike in excise duty on petrol, diesel has not affected retail prices in Pune.”

However, Pune city police have made it clear that vehicle movement is not allowed without valid pass from Police.
