Pune, 11th May 2023: Since the number of private vehicles in the city has gone above 30 lakhs and the roads in the city are becoming insufficient for the traffic of private vehicles, efforts are being made to increase the number of public transport by making the service of PMPML more efficient. However, the number of passengers of PMPML has decreased by almost two lakhs in the last year.

The PMPML administration has announced the passenger statistics for the year April 2022 to March 2023, and it has been revealed that an average of 8 lakhs 738 passengers traveled by PMPML per day. So far, the PMPML has shown that the average number of passengers is 10 to 11 lakh every year. Therefore, it has once again come to light that Pune residents are not giving priority to public transport.

Looking at the statistics released by PMPML, passengers mainly consist of college students as well as class 10th-12th students. The academic year starts from June to August and ends in March to April. During these months, the number of passengers of PMPML has crossed eight lakhs while the number of passengers in the rest of the period is between seven to eight lakhs. The said data also reveals that the number of PMPML passengers is more during the Diwali period as well.
