Pune 11th Oct 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Vikram Kumar has appointed coordination officers for the merged villages with an intention to solve various civic issues. The coordination officers have been appointed for 23 villages that were recently merged with the PMC.

The municipal commissioner on Tuesday issues an official order of appointment. The decision comes amid complaints by the citizens living in the merged villages regarding lack of basic amenities despite paying taxes to the civic body. Earlier the state government had also announced to form a committee to look after developmental issues in these villages but the formation of the committee was put on hold after allegations from local politicians.

It may be noted that 23 villages were merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation in 2023 making it the geographically largest municipal corporation of the country. However, the merged villages were suffering from basic issues such as roads, water, sanitation and the villagers kept raising their problems with the civic body while the municipal corporation officials were awaiting funds for the development.
