Pune Old Sangvi Dahihandi Death: Two Arrested, Mandal President Booked
Sangvi, 7th September 2026: The Sangvi police have arrested two persons and booked the president of a Dahihandi mandal after a woman was killed when an iron structure supporting a sound system and mandap collapsed on her during a festival programme in Old Sangvi on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Salma Salauddin Pathan, 52, a resident of Old Sangvi. According to police, the incident occurred after the Dahihandi programme organised by the Vighnaharta Mitra Mandal had concluded. While the mandap and the iron structure supporting the speakers were being dismantled, the structure collapsed, injuring Pathan, who was present at the spot. She died in the incident.
Police have arrested Mehboob alias Sam Ramzan Sheikh, 27, who had erected the mandap and the iron structure, and Kunal Anil Bhogawade, 29, who had provided the speaker sound system. A case has also been registered against mandal president Amol Dharmaraj Beldar.
Police said the structure and sound system had allegedly been installed in violation of safety norms. As the woman’s family declined to lodge a complaint, Assistant Police Inspector Rajesh Malegaonkar filed a complaint on behalf of the police, following which a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
