Pune: Online Extortion Of Rs 1 Lakh From Woman By Pretending To Be Speaking From MSEDCL

Pune, 4th November 2022: By pretending to be speaking from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), a cyber thief blackmailed a woman of Rs 1.02 lakh online by threatening to cut the electricity connection. This incident took place on November 2 in Baner. In this regard, a woman has registered a case at the Chaturshringi police station.

 

The complainant woman is residing in Baner, and on November 2 someone pretended to be talking to her from MSEDCL. He stated that the complainant woman’s electricity bill is not paid and threatened to disconnect her electricity connection at night.

 

 

“If you want to update the system of MSEDCL, then download the app,” by saying this, the cyber thief engaged the woman in a conversation and forced her to enter the PIN of the bank account. Then Rs 1.02 lakh was withdrawn from her bank account online.
