Pune: Open Urination Leads to Assault and Gun Firing, Accused Taken Into Custody
Loni Kalbhor, 27th December 2024: A startling incident unfolded this morning near Jai Malhar Hotel in Theur when an argument over open urination escalated into violence, leaving one woman injured and leading to the arrest of the accused.
According to police, at around 8:15 AM, a group of four to five men traveling in a Fortuner car stopped near Jai Malhar Hotel to urinate in the open. When Akshay Sahebarao Chavan, the watchman of a nearby land plot, who was present with his wife, expressed anger over their actions, an argument ensued between the men.
The confrontation turned violent as the men allegedly attacked the watchman, hitting him with their hands and throwing stones. One of the stones struck his wife, Sheetal Chavan, causing injuries to her head and legs.
The situation took a dangerous turn when one of the accused reportedly fired a gunshot into the air from an unlicensed pistol, creating panic before fleeing the scene in the Fortuner.
Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Karankat, in charge of the Loni Kalbhor police station, stated that the police were immediately informed of the incident. Acting swiftly, they tracked down the vehicle, detained the accused, and seized the weapon involved in the incident. The accused have been identified as Bhanudas Shelar, Ajay Mundhe(who fired the pistol) and Satish alias Nana Mundhe.
Inspector Karankat confirmed that the injured woman, Sheetal Chavan, is in stable condition. “The situation at the site is now peaceful. We are conducting a detailed investigation and taking further appropriate action,” he added.
