Pune: Open Urination Leads to Violence, Woman Succumbs to Injuries

Pune, 2nd January 2025: A security guard’s wife, injured in a violent incident involving gunfire and stone-pelting in the Theur area of Pune-Solapur Road, passed away during treatment at a private hospital on Wednesday evening. The woman has been identified as Sheetal Akshay Chavan (29), a resident of Chavan Vasti, Theur.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde, charges against the three arrested accused—Bhanudas Shinde, Ajay Mundhe, and Satish alias Nana Mundhe—have been enhanced following Sheetal’s death. A country-made pistol used in the incident has also been seized from the accused.
The incident occurred on Friday, December 27, around 8:15 a.m., near Hotel Jai Malhar in Theur Phata on the Pune-Solapur Road. Akshay Chavan, who worked as a security guard at a vacant plot in the area, confronted the accused after they stopped their car and began urinating in the open space.
One of the accused, angered by the confrontation, fired a shot at Akshay Chavan with a country-made pistol. Hearing the commotion, Chavan’s wife, Sheetal, rushed to the spot. The accused then began pelting stones, one of which struck Sheetal on the head, leaving her critically injured.
Sheetal was rushed to a private hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday evening. Her body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The police have arrested the three accused in connection with the case and are investigating further.
