Pune Police Take Action Against 2,633 Drivers on New Year’s Eve, Collect Rs 20 Lakh in Fines

Pune, 2nd January 2025: Pune police launched a strict crackdown on traffic violators on New Year’s Eve, taking action against 2,633 drivers for offences such as drunk driving, speeding, and other violations. The operation, conducted at 27 checkpoints across the city, resulted in the collection of fines amounting to ₹19.81 lakh.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar emphasized, “Action was taken against those violating traffic rules to ensure the safety of all citizens.”

Among the violators, 85 drivers were booked for drunk driving, while 902 cases were registered against individuals for parking in a way that obstructed traffic. Penalties were imposed on 23 drivers for not wearing helmets, 118 for disobeying traffic signals, 632 for driving in the wrong direction, and 23 for driving without a valid license.

The operation also penalized 176 individuals for riding triple seat on two-wheelers, 49 for talking on mobile phones while driving, and 56 for dangerous driving. In total, 552 people were fined for various other traffic rule violations.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende stated, “The traffic branch deployed 800 personnel who ensured strict implementation of traffic regulations. No untoward incidents were reported during the New Year celebrations.”

To maintain security, a total of 3,000 police officers were deployed across the city.
