Pune, 30th January 2024: Neel Acharya, an Indian student pursuing double majors in computer science and data science at Purdue University’s John Martinson Honors College, was discovered deceased on the university campus after being reported missing last week.

The somber discovery follows an appeal made by Acharya’s mother, Gaury Acharya, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where she sought information about her missing son. In her plea, she stated, “Our son Neel Acharya is missing since Jan 28 (12:30 AM EST). He is studying at Purdue University in the US. He was last seen by the Uber driver who dropped him off at Purdue University. We are seeking any information about him. Please help us if you know anything.”

Authorities later confirmed the identity of the body found on Purdue’s campus as that of Neel Acharya. The cause of his untimely death remains unknown. Neel Acharya, who completed his schooling in Pune before joining Purdue in 2022, was pursuing academic excellence with a focus on computer science and data science.

This heartbreaking incident unfolds shortly after the tragic demise of another Indian student, Vivek Saini, in Lithonia, Georgia. Saini, an MBA student, fell victim to a brutal attack by a homeless man named Julian Faulkner.

The shocking incident, captured on camera, revealed that Faulkner ruthlessly struck Saini approximately 50 times on the head with a hammer at the Chevron Food Mart at Snapfinger and Cleveland Road. Despite Saini’s previous acts of kindness toward Faulkner, including providing him with snacks, a drink, water, and a jacket, the attack resulted in his untimely death.
