Pune: ‘Our Sons Are Being Framed for Political Reasons,’ Says Mother of Gangster Nilesh Ghaywal
Pune, 10th October 2025: As the investigation into the Nilesh Ghaywal firing case intensifies, the absconding gangster’s family has come forward to claim that he is being targeted due to political rivalry. Ghaywal’s mother, Kusum Ghaywal, has alleged that her sons Nilesh and Sachin are victims of a political conspiracy intended to stop them from contesting the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections.
Police sources said that Nilesh Ghaywal, wanted in a recent shooting incident in Pune, is suspected to have fled abroad using a fake visa. His brother, Sachin Ghaywal, is also under the scanner amid questions surrounding the weapon license allegedly issued to him by Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam.
However, refuting these allegations, Nilesh’s mother Kusum Ghaywal made an emotional appeal before the media, saying, “If Nilesh had a fake visa, how could he have gone abroad? Politicians used Nilesh, and now they are trying to destroy our family. Why register a new case again when earlier ones have already been cancelled?”
She claimed that both her sons were preparing to enter politics, and their growing popularity had unsettled opponents. “The political opponents are not letting both the brothers live. When Nilesh went to London, I helped him myself. If the visa was fake, would he have been allowed to board the plane?” she asked.
Reacting to media reports portraying her son as a gangster, Kusum said, “They say he took 12 flats at gunpoint. Were people sleeping while he did that? The police say he ran away — that’s a lie. Three people went abroad together with valid visas. Nilesh has not absconded.”
Visibly emotional, she added, “I had a cancer operation just eight days ago. Every day, police stand outside our house, and the girls in the family are scared to step out. People call him ‘Nilya’ — I hate that. His name is Nilesh. He is educated and has good thoughts. My son is not a goon — society has made him one.”
She further alleged that continuous police pressure and political interference have pushed the family into distress. “Every day, a new case is registered. We are being harassed. The police lie, and no one listens to us,” she said tearfully.
