Bhor, 4th November 2023: In response to the ongoing strife surrounding Maratha reservation issues, the Maharashtra state government has initiated a campaign to locate Kunbi records across the state. This effort aims to address concerns related to the Maratha community’s reservation status.

The administration, led by Bhor sub-divisional officer Rajendra Kachre, has made substantial efforts to retrieve Kunbi records in the Bhor and Velhe talukas of the revenue department.

On Saturday, officials made a significant discovery in the record room—evidence of Kunbi records from Velhe Taluka dating back to 1888. These records, handwritten in Modi script, are currently undergoing expert verification.

To date, the search has yielded Kunbi records from Salungan village in the remote part of the taluka, dating to 1888, Shivre village records from 1905, and Varodi village records from Wisgaon valley from 1945-46.

SDO Kachre emphasized that they are diligently processing the applications of citizens who have applied for Kunbi caste certificates. Since January, 1,074 individuals from Bhor and Velhe talukas have applied for these certificates, with 1,030 of them already receiving their certificates.

He further informed that only 12 applications have been rejected, while the decisions for 32 applicants are still pending. In Bhor taluka, 695 out of 710 applicants have received certificates, and 25 applications are awaiting review. In Velhe taluka, 354 out of 364 applicants have been granted certificates, 12 applications have been rejected, and seven remain pending.

It’s worth noting that a few years ago, records of the revenue department were damaged due to a fire at the Panchayat Samiti building, with Kikvi and Nigudghar groups being the most affected. Citizens of those villages have been urged to submit their records to the revenue department, which will subsequently issue Kunbi certificates to eligible individuals after verification and inspection.
