Pune, 4th September 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received 2,527 objections and suggestions regarding the draft ward structure for the upcoming municipal elections. With Thursday, September 4, marking the final day for submissions, officials expect the total number of objections to surpass 3,000.

The Election Commission has announced the draft structure comprising 41 wards, from which 165 corporators will be elected. The revisions have made wards in the villages and suburbs larger in terms of population and area, while central city wards have become relatively smaller. Citizens and opposition groups have raised concerns about wards crossing natural boundaries, and there have been calls to rename several wards.

Among yesterday’s submissions, Ward No. 3 (Vimannagar-Lohgaon) saw 250 objections, Ward No. 24 (Kamala Nehru Hospital-Rasta Peth) received 219, Ward No. 34 (Narhe-Vadgaon Budruk) had 242, and the Election Office registered 344 objections. Previously, the administration had reported 785 objections received by Tuesday evening, but the actual figure stands at 941.

Meanwhile, the district administration has begun hearings on objections and suggestions for the draft ward composition of 14 municipal councils and three municipal panchayats. On the first day of hearings, 250 objections were reviewed before District Collector Jitendra Dudi. Yesterday, 250 objections were heard in the presence of 180 objectors from Baramati, Lonavala, Daund, Talegaon, Shirur, Junnar, Fursungi-Uruli Devachi municipal councils, and Malegaon municipal panchayat.

Remaining hearings for 168 objections concerning Saswad, Bhor, Chakan, Alandi, Rajgurunagar municipal councils, and Manchar and Vadgaon Maval panchayats will be conducted on Thursday. The Fursungi-Uruli Devachi municipal council has received 66 objections, while Rajgurunagar recorded 51, Bhor 46, Saswad 32, Lonavala 30, Alandi 23, and Talegaon and Junnar one each. Malegaon Budruk Nagar Panchayat accounted for 136 objections.

Common concerns include ignoring natural boundaries and the lack of cohesive settlements while drafting the ward structure. The administration has stated that proposals for municipal councils will be prepared between September 9–11 and for municipal panchayats between September 9–15 before submission to the Urban Development Department for approval. The final ward structure is expected to be notified between September 26 and 30.
