Pune: Over 200 University Representatives To Oversee Election Process At SPPU
Pune, 16th November 2022: The preparation of the university for the general assembly election of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) to be held on November 20 is in the final stage. More than 200 professors, officers and employees will supervise the election process, and voting will be held at 71 polling stations in Pune, Ahmednagar, Nashik, and Silvassa.
As per the provisions of the Maharashtra Public University Act 2016, the election is being held for 10 seats in the graduate group of the Adhisabha. These representatives will be elected for the next five years at the Adhisabha. A training class was held at the university to inform officers and employees about the elections. Vice Chancellor Dr Karbhari Kale and Registrar Dr Prafulla Pawar guided this class. Deputy Chancellor of the Election Department Dr Vaishali Sakore, Special Executive Officer Pramod Bhadakwade, and Assistant Registrar Dnyaneshwar Salunkhe were present. At this time, a small rehearsal of the voting process was conducted.
Dr Pawar said the process of the Adhisabha election started on June 1. The University also advertised in the news, poster, newspaper advertisement and radio FM for enrollment of graduates. Due to this, a record 1.20 lakh graduates applied for registration this year. The university has a three-tier system for selection. There will be 114 booths with one booth representative for every 1,000 voters. There is one central inspector for every 5,000 voters. There will be 71 polling booths, with one representative at each booth. There will be 26 polling stations in Pune city, 10 in Pune rural, 15 in Ahmednagar district, 19 in Nashik district, and one in Silvassa. The list of these 71 polling stations has been announced on the university website. During this polling process, 74 university faculty and officials will act as centre observers, while 114 university officials and staff will act as booth representatives.
A total of 37 candidates have filed applications for ten Adhisabha seats from Graduate Constituency, including 18 candidates for five open seats, five candidates for one Scheduled Caste category, four candidates for one Scheduled Tribe category seat, four candidates for one seat of Exempt Caste Nomadic Tribe category, four candidates for one other backward category seat. Two candidates have filled out applications for one seat in the women’s category.
“University elections are an important process in a democracy. Officials appointed according to law should face the election process firmly without succumbing to any pressure,” Dr Karbhari Kale, Vice Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University, said.
