Pune, 3rd April 2026: Amid disruptions in LPG availability triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MNGL) has stepped up efforts to expand its piped natural gas (PNG) network among industrial users across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Officials said MNGL currently caters to over 350 industrial units and more than 50 industrial canteens across key belts such as Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad (PCMC), Bhosari, Chakan, Talegaon and Hinjewadi. While LPG supplies have been affected due to geopolitical developments, PNG distribution has remained steady, in accordance with Central government directives issued in March.

With LPG-dependent industries facing supply constraints following government-mandated curtailments, MNGL has intensified outreach in areas where pipeline connectivity is available. The company has been conducting on-ground surveys, distributing informational material and organising registration drives to facilitate a shift to PNG.

As part of these efforts, MNGL, in coordination with the MIDC regional office, held a two-day facilitation camp at the Chinchwad MIDC office on April 1 and 2 to simplify the process of obtaining new PNG connections. The initiative saw participation from more than 50 visitors, of whom around 35 industrial units registered for PNG connections.

Following registrations, the company has begun technical assessments, issuing commercial proposals and completing necessary formalities, including agreements and permissions.

MNGL officials said the company has been engaging with industry bodies and MIDC authorities to widen its reach. Over the past few weeks, more than 20 industrial units have been onboarded, while connections have already been commissioned for over 10 units. In areas where pipeline infrastructure is in place, connections are being provided without delay.

The company added that expansion of PNG infrastructure, including the laying of new pipeline networks, is an ongoing process aimed at ensuring reliable fuel supply to industries amid prevailing uncertainties.
