Pune 13th Sept 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s road department has commenced the process of resurfacing and concrete work. However, the delay in the work has contributed to the re-emergence of potholes on the city’s roads, which is expected to worsen ahead of the Ganesh festival. However, road excavation work for setting up pandals by public Ganesh Mandal organizations is a significant factor leading to the reappearance of potholes on the streets.

The civic body had assured to fill these potholes before the Ganesh festival. Until now, the municipal administration has filled 7,739 potholes while 355 chambers have also been repaired. A total of 27,000 metric tons of stone aggregate mixed with tar has been utilized for pothole filling and the officials have expedited the work across the city, said officials.

Continuous road excavations have contributed to the deteriorating condition of major roads in the city. Many prominent roads have developed potholes, leading to criticism from citizens. In response to the road conditions, the municipal administration initiated a systematic road inspection in the city to identify the roads that require urgent repairs. The assessment included determining the extent of the damage and prioritizing roads for resurfacing. As a result, a decision was made to conduct extensive repairs on 100 kilometers of roads across the city, which includes the resurfacing of 8.30 kilometers of concrete roads and work of 91 kilometers of asphalt roads.
