Pune: Padma Shri Suresh Wadkar honoured with ‘Panchamratna’ Award

Pune,7th January 2025: Padma Shri Suresh Wadkar was honoured with the prestigious ‘Panchamratna’ award during the special musical concert ‘Re-Discovering Pancham’ held at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, Swargate recently. Ardent lovers of R.D. Burman have initiated this ‘Panchamratna’ award which is given to the artists associated with the late R.D. Burman.

The award consists of a citation, Puneri Pagadi, shawl, and Shreefal. Previous recipients of this award include Kersi Lords, Manohari Singh, Shailendra Singh, Ustad Taufiq Qureshi, Nitin Shankar and many more.

While expressing his feelings after receiving ‘Panchamratna’ award, Suresh Wadkar said, “I feel proud to receive this prestigious award as Panchamda was very close to my heart. His music was simply divine and working with him was an unforgettable experience!”

He also appreciated all the artists performing in ‘Re-Discovering Pancham’ concert and gave them best wishes.

‘Re-Discovering Pancham’ was conceptualized by city-based artists Suraj Doshi, Anand Ghogare, and Gaurav Prabhune. The concert featured over 60 artists on various instruments, including guitar, brass, and violin was the highlight. Avid Punekars thoroughly enjoyed a special performance by National Award-winning singer Savani Ravindra, along with Jitendra Bhuruk, Rupali Anand, Vivek Pande, and Vijay Joshi who performed various known and unknown songs of R. D. Burman. This program was hosted by actors and celebrity anchors Sankarshan Karhade and Yogini Pophale.
