Pune Palkhi 2023: Rs 21 Crore Allocated for Temporary Toilets at Ashadhi Ekadashi Pilgrimage
Pune, 1st June 2023: The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Girish Mahajan, has allocated a substantial sum of Rs 21 crore to establish temporary toilets for the convenience of pilgrims accompanying the palanquins of various saints on their journey through Pune, Satara, and Solapur districts during Ashadhi Ekadashi.
Minister Mahajan emphasized the significance of this provision, as millions of devotees undertake the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur during Ashadhi Ekadashi, with the involvement of various Dindas. The Village Development Department has facilitated this initiative to ensure that laborers receive adequate sanitation facilities on behalf of the government.
The Palkhi Sohla, involving the main palanquins of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Sant Tukaram Maharaj, and Sant Sopan Kaka Maharaj, spans over 22 days. Minister Mahajan highlighted the extended duration of this journey, underscoring the need for appropriate facilities for the devotees.
An allocation of Rs. 4 crore 21 lakh has been granted to the Gram Panchayats along the Palkhi Marg in Solapur, Pune, and Satara districts for Nirmal Wari. The respective village panchayats will bear the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in the areas through which the pilgrimage will pass and ensuring necessary amenities for the devotees.
Furthermore, the Pune Zilla Parishad has approved a budget of Rs. 17 crore 64 lakh for the event. Minister Mahajan stated that this fund will be utilized to establish temporary toilets, shelters, and other essential facilities for the devotees accompanying the palanquins of Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli, Sant Tukaram, and Sant Sopan Dev. The proposal for this budget was submitted by Minister Mahajan for the current year’s Ashadhi Wari.
The initiatives taken by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Ministry, along with the Gram Panchayats and Pune Zilla Parishad, reflect their commitment to ensuring the well-being and convenience of the devotees during the significant religious pilgrimage. These efforts aim to enhance sanitation facilities and provide necessary amenities for the smooth execution of the Ashadhi Vari, benefiting both the pilgrims and the local communities.
