Camp, 9th July 2026: The Pune Cantonment Board, Pune Traffic Police and Army’s Southern Command have issued a public advisory announcing extensive traffic restrictions and security arrangements ahead of the Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi processions passing through the Pune Cantonment area.

Authorities have urged residents, commuters, hospital visitors, students and commercial establishments to avoid unnecessary travel in the Cantonment area from the night of July 10 until the afternoon of July 12, as lakhs of devotees are expected to participate in the annual Ashadhi Wari.

According to the advisory, the Palki procession will enter Pune Cantonment at 11 pm on July 10 and remain in the area until approximately 2 pm on July 11. The peak restriction period has been identified between 2 am and 2 pm on July 11.

The procession will move along the MG Road – Pul Gate – Mamma Devi Chowk – Pune-Solapur Highway route, covering a stretch of around 2.2 kilometres. Authorities estimate that 5 to 10 lakh Warkaris will travel on foot through this section.

Major Traffic Restrictions

The stretch from MG Road to Bhairoba Nalla Chowk will remain completely closed to all vehicular traffic from 11 pm on July 10 until 12 noon on July 12. Officials have also warned that vehicular movement on the Pune-Solapur Highway will be extremely limited during the procession.

Traffic control measures will be implemented at key junctions, including Limb Centre Chowk, Turf Club Chowk, Water Tank, Race Course Gate, and Mamma Devi Chowk.

Hospital Access, Schools to Be Affected

Authorities said access to major institutions such as Command Hospital (CH), Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), ALC and PCDA(O) will be significantly restricted during the peak hours. Doctors, medical staff, patients and visitors have been advised to plan their travel in advance.

Students appearing for examinations or travelling towards Hadapsar on July 11 have also been advised to leave early and expect delays.

Emergency Arrangements in Place

To ensure uninterrupted medical access, an emergency corridor will be maintained at Turf Club Chowk for ambulances and patients travelling to CH, AFMC and AICTC. One route will remain open exclusively for emergency movement.

Authorities said transport arrangements would be made on either side of Turf Club Chowk for commuters affected by road closures.

Security personnel, including Quick Reaction Teams (QRT), Military Police, Guard Mount Personnel (GMP) and sentries, will be deployed across the route. Traffic management within the Cantonment area will be coordinated by the Southern Command Provost Unit and the 41 Artillery Division Provost Unit.

Temporary toilets, urinals, drinking water points and other public amenities will also be set up along the route in coordination with the Pune Cantonment Board and civil authorities. Direction boards indicating alternate routes will be installed at road closure points.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to:

Avoid travelling through the Pune Cantonment area from the night of July 10 until July 12 noon, particularly between 2 am and 2 pm on July 11.

Use alternate routes and plan hospital visits, school travel and other essential journeys in advance.
