Pune: Palkhi Begins From Alandi And Dehu

Pune, 19th July 2021: Maharashtra’s famous Ashaadhi waari started from Pune’s Dehu and Alandi temples today.

According to rituals these two Palkhi with lakhs of devotees reach Vitthal Rakhmini temple of Pandharpur by walk every year but due to COVID restrictions both the Palkhis have been allowed to travel only by bus with limited number of devotees in it for last two years.This year’s waari procession is also leaving today in a government bus with a police convoy to ensure that no one enters directly, violating COVID protocol. The procession will arrive in Pandharpur today, and the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddha Thavkwill attend the annual mahapooja event there tomorrow, as is customary.

All devotees who were permitted to travel in the bus with Palkhis were tested for COVID19, and those who tested negative were permitted to do so. This year, a total of ten Palkhis from Maharashtra have been permitted to travel to Pandharpur with their 40 devotees.

Every year, lakhs of devotees from Maharashtra walk for days to reach Pandharpur as part of the Palkhi procession. This is one of Maharashtra’s most well-known and celebrated events, attended by people of all ages.
