Pune, 10th March 2023: The Pune Regional Passport Office (RPO) has found a way to reduce the waiting time for passport applicants. It will now make available slots that were booked earlier but became vacant due to cancellations or rescheduling, opening them up for new bookings. This move will give applicants a better chance of getting an appointment date of their choice. Until now, such slots were left unused.

The RPO operates 17 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras in various districts under its jurisdiction, where it receives 800 normal applications every day. Due to increased demand, there is a five-week waiting period for getting an appointment under the ‘normal quota’ and three weeks under the ‘tatkal quota’ at the Pune Passport Seva Kendra. However, 1,025 slots are released every day under the ‘normal’ category and 250 under the tatkal scheme.

The capacity of the PSKs and POPSKs to issue passports has increased considerably in recent years. In 2022, the Pune RPO issued more than 1,13,000 passports, which was about 50 per cent higher than those issued in 2021. Continuing the momentum, the RPO issued 29,000 more passports in the first two months of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.
