Pimpri, 27th September 2023: The Pavana Dam, a crucial water source for the residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad, has achieved full capacity, alleviating concerns about water scarcity for the coming year. With a discharge flow of 1,400 cusecs, the dam’s full reservoir ensures a stable water supply for the foreseeable future.

Located in the Maval region, Pavana Dam has reached 100% water storage capacity by the end of September, marking its fourth instance this year of achieving this milestone. Recent heavy rainfall has played a significant role in replenishing the dam’s water levels.

In response to the abundant rainfall and rising water levels, the dam’s power generation house began releasing 1,400 cusecs of water into the Pavana River at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday. This action serves as a precautionary measure to manage water levels and prevent potential overflow.

Given the ongoing rainfall in the dam’s catchment area, authorities are on high alert for the possibility of water being released from the spillway of the Pavana Dam into the Pavana River at any moment.

The Irrigation Department has issued a public advisory, urging residents to avoid entering the riverbed. They recommend the immediate relocation of water pumps, agricultural equipment, and livestock situated near the river to ensure safety amid fluctuating water levels.
