Pune: Pay And Park Scheme By PCMC Fails; Contractors Withdraw For Not Being Able To Afford

Pimpri, 26th September 2022: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started the “Pay and Park” scheme at 20 places in the city. However, the contractor of this work has withdrawn giving the reason of not being able to afford it. So it seems that this plan will be wrapped up.

Various schemes are being implemented by the PCMC. “Pay and Park” scheme is a part of it. PCMC plans to initiate “Pay and Park” at 396 places in the city. In the first phase, the “Pay and Park” will be implemented at 80 locations.

Lanes required for “pay and park” were struck on the road. Iron barricades were assembled at some places. Boards were also built at various places to inform the motorists about “Pay and Park”. Tenders were also called for in this regard. Among the contractors who came, Nirmala Auto Care was given the job of “Pay and Park”.

However, looking at the income and expenditure on staff for the last six months, the company has informed the municipal corporation that it is withdrawing from the scheme as it can not afford the finances.

To promote “Pay and Park” and bring discipline to unruly drivers, the Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police have also provided towing vans for police.

The Municipal Corporation made six packages of “Pay and Park”. One of these packages space was given to the municipal corporation by the builders on the BRT road. 

In the remaining five packages “Pay and Park” on 20 routes from Nashikphata located on the Pune-Mumbai highway to Nigdi, Chapekar Chowk, Telco Road, Spine Road, Aundh-Rawet BRT route, KSB Chowk – Hinjewadi (route near Birla Hospital, Auto Cluster – Kalewadi Phata) on Mumbai road. 

It was decided to pay 50 per cent of the money received o the Municipal Corporation and the remaining 50 per cent to the contractor.
