Pune: PCMC Administration Unveils ‘Bullock Cart Race Sculpture’ to Celebrate Traditional Practices

Bhosari, 3rd April 2024: To instil awareness of traditional practices like bullock cart racing and promote agriculture, soil, and culture, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Administration is overseeing the realization of a ‘Bullock Cart Race Sculpture’ in Bhosari. This sculpture, currently in progress, is poised to become a focal point for enthusiasts of bullock cart racing and citizens alike.

Notably, Marutrao Landge International Wrestling Training Center and Bhosari Gavjatra Maidan are witnessing the installation of captivating sculptures depicting bullock cart races alongside village culture and traditional sports. These endeavours are nearing completion and are expected to captivate the attention of locals and visitors.

The Gavjatra Maidan in Bhosari features a traditional bullock cart ghat adorned with elements of Maharashtra’s rich culture and the beloved pastimes of farmers. This initiative aims to educate the younger generation about the significance of village culture, bullock cart racing, and robust sports such as wrestling.

Furthermore, the ongoing state-wide movement to lift the ban on bullock cart races has garnered momentum, leading to the resumption of these races in Maharashtra. The forthcoming bullock cart race sculpture has elicited joy among car owners and enthusiasts of this traditional sport.

Mahesh Landge, MLA, highlighted the importance of showcasing Maharashtra’s village culture, bullock cart racing, wrestling, kabaddi, and yoga mudras to foster awareness and deliver positive messages to the public. As part of this initiative, it was proposed to enhance the aesthetics of Bhosari village fair area and the road leading from the crematorium to the fire station. Accordingly, efforts are underway to beautify these spaces through sculptural installations, signalling a celebration of local heritage and traditions.
