Pimpri Chinchwad, 12th April 2023: Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh announced the municipal corporation’s unwavering focus on reducing environmental degradation and pollution in the city. The corporation aims to revolutionize the city’s transportation system and plans to have at least 50% of e-rickshaws on the roads by 2026.

Presently, e-vehicles constitute a mere 11% of the vehicles on the city’s roads. In a bid to promote eco-friendly vehicles, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Electric Vehicle (EV) Cell has been established. Recently, a meeting was held between industry representatives and vehicle associations to accelerate the use of e-vehicles, particularly three-wheeler e-rickshaws. The EV Cell educated officials and rickshaw puller-owner associations about the advantages of driving e-rickshaws as opposed to CNG-powered rickshaws. They also discussed the various types, technology, and economics of electric three-wheelers.

Furthermore, Additional Commissioner Jitendra Wagh shared insightful details about the policies of the Environment, Electricity, and Building Permit Departments of the Municipal Corporation. Chetna Sinha, the founder-president of Mann Deshi Mahila Sahakari Bank, pledged to support women auto-rickshaw drivers in the city.
