Pimpri, 15th December 2023: Recent social media messages circulating about a purported reduction in water supply by the Water Supply Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have caused panic among the public. However, PCMC officials have categorically denied these rumours and emphasized their commitment to ensuring sufficient water supply across all areas.
The circulating message claimed that the PCMC’s water supply department announced a 15-minute daily reduction in water supply starting from December 15, citing a decrease in water capacity in Pavana Dam. The message requested citizens to use water carefully in light of this supposed reduction.
PCMC Water Supply Department Executive Engineer, Ramnath Takle, stated, “This rumor is not true; the message was false. If we decide something like this, we will provide official notices to all the citizens. PCMC is making every effort to ensure there is sufficient water supply in all the areas. We have initiated an inquiry into how this message got spread, and in the future, we urge the public not to believe anything like this.”
While there are separate reports about dams supplying water to the PCMC area having sufficient water until May 2024, PCMC officials deny any immediate reduction in supply. The conflicting information has confused, leading PCMC to investigate the origin of the false message.
In response to the panic caused by the message, PCMC officials have urged the public not to believe such unverified information and to rely on official notices for accurate updates. An inquiry has been initiated to determine how the false message spread, emphasizing the importance of verified information to avoid unnecessary panic.
