Pune: PCMC Inaugurates EV Charging Station at Civic Headquarters
Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th August 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has inaugurated an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at its headquarters to promote green mobility and strengthen charging infrastructure in the city.
Mayor Ravi Landge inaugurated the facility in the presence of Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Standing Committee chairman Abhishek Barne, K Ward Committee chairman Nikhil Borhade, city engineer Manoj Sethia and other civic officials and staff.
The civic body said the initiative was aimed at encouraging the use of electric vehicles amid rising vehicular traffic, air pollution and carbon emissions in the city.
Landge said the EV charging station was an important step towards adopting green technology and building a cleaner and more sustainable city.
“Development is not limited to building roads and infrastructure. Ensuring clean air and a healthy environment for future generations is equally important. Increasing EV use and creating a strong charging network is the need of the hour,” Landge said.
Standing Committee chairman Abhishek Barne said expanding EV charging infrastructure was an investment in the city’s sustainable future.
“With the rapid development of Pimpri Chinchwad, its environmental needs must also be addressed. The PCMC will continue to prioritise modern and environment-friendly infrastructure and provide better facilities to citizens,” Barne said.
The civic body said the availability of accessible charging facilities at multiple locations would make it easier for residents to switch to EVs, reduce dependence on conventional fuels and help curb vehicular pollution and carbon emissions.
It added that the new facility at the municipal headquarters would also help create awareness about EVs among civic employees and citizens.
The PCMC said it plans to promote green energy, clean air and sustainable transport as part of its efforts to develop Pimpri-Chinchwad as a cleaner and more environment-friendly city.
