Pune Traffic Police to Inspect Roads, Junctions to Identify Causes of Traffic Congestion
Pune, 18th August 2026: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed the traffic police to conduct detailed inspections of roads and major junctions across the city to identify the reasons behind frequent traffic congestion.
The directions were issued during a meeting with traffic branch officials, during which the commissioner reviewed the traffic situation at key junctions. Officials have been asked to identify specific problems affecting traffic movement instead of limiting their role to traffic regulation.
Traffic police personnel in each division have been instructed to inspect roads and major junctions and identify potholes, poor road conditions, encroachments and problems with junction layouts that may be contributing to congestion. The information will be compiled and shared with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
The commissioner has also asked traffic officials to coordinate with PMC ward offices and ensure that potholes identified during the inspections are brought to the attention of civic officials and repaired promptly.
Traffic police have been asked to collect information from personnel deployed at different junctions, as their on-ground observations may differ from claims made by the civic administration regarding road and pothole repairs.
As part of the exercise, traffic police have been directed to suspend punitive action until August 31 and focus on inspecting roads, junctions and encroachments. Reports on the problems identified will be submitted to PMC officials for necessary action.
