Pimpri-Chinchwad, 19th June 2026: The Education Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has issued a show-cause notice to the management of Redcliffe School in Chikhali after it allegedly prescribed and used textbooks published by a private publisher instead of state-approved textbooks.

According to education department officials, the school has been directed to explain its stand within three days. The notice warns of strict action under the relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fee) Act and other applicable rules if the school fails to provide a satisfactory response.

The action follows complaints from parents who alleged that the school had made the use of books published by a private publisher, identified as “NCERT Edge”, compulsory for students. Acting on the complaints, the Primary Education Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) conducted an inquiry on June 9 and visited the school premises to verify the allegations.

The inquiry reportedly found that supplementary study material and textbooks published by a private publisher were being used in the school. Based on these findings, the education department issued a notice to the school management seeking an explanation.

Officials said the use of privately published textbooks in place of prescribed government-approved textbooks is not permitted under existing regulations. The Maharashtra School Education Department had earlier directed schools to use only authorised textbooks.

The notice states that if the school’s response is found unsatisfactory, the education department may initiate further action. The department has also asked the management to clarify the circumstances under which the private publications were introduced and whether parents were compelled to purchase them.
