Pune: PCMC Launches Sustainable Development Chamber for Balanced Growth of Pimpri Chinchwad
Pimpri, 22nd June 2023: The rapidly growing population of Pimpri-Chinchwad, an industrial city, is highlighting the urgent need for improved infrastructure and balanced development. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has announced the establishment of a ‘Sustainable Development Cell’ within the administrative structure to address various aspects of sustainable development.
To kickstart this endeavor, a workshop on sustainable development was held in Wakad on Wednesday, organized by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. During the event, Singh briefed the press about this initiative. Prominent attendees included MLA Uma Khapare, Additional Commissioner Jitendra Wagh, Pradeep Jambhale, Ulhas Jagtap, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Jitendra Kolombe, Health Medical Officer Dr. Laxman Gofane, among others. The sustainable development website was inaugurated by MLA Khapare.
Driven by the increasing influx of citizens seeking employment opportunities, the pace of urbanization in the city has accelerated significantly. In response, a Sustainable Development Cell has been established to address various dimensions of sustainable development. Commissioner Singh emphasized that the cell’s focus would encompass environmental conservation, tackling air and water pollution, noise reduction, promoting green spaces, biodiversity preservation, waste management, healthcare, transportation, climate change, eco-friendly infrastructure, river restoration, and water source revitalization.
