Pune: PCMC Mayor Orders To Stop Crackdown On Illegal Constructions
Pimpri, 21st January 2022: While Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil has taken stern action against encroachments and illegal constructions in the city, Mayor Mai Dhore, on the other hand, gave an order to stop the action on Thursday, citing the reason for COVID-19. The mayor said that such action should not be added to it as citizens are already under stress because of the corona pandemic.
Over the last few days, action has been taken against illegal constructions and encroachments in all the eight ward offices of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Despite some political pressure, the action is being taken as per the orders of the commissioner.
Mayor further added, “The consequences of this action taken by the commissioner are also seen in the political scenario. Political parties that do not agree on other issues have agreed to stop this action. However, the commissioner is adamant about the ongoing action campaign”.
Mayor also informed that one of the reasons for the cold war between the ruling BJP and the commissioner in the last few days is the ongoing project. BJP leaders have already accused the commissioner of gradually initiating the action at the behest of top NCP leaders to create discontent among the people against the BJP in the run-up to the municipal elections.
Against this background, when the members had raised the issue of this action in the meeting on Thursday, they pointed out that this action is being taken in the wrong manner. Referring to various issues raised by the committee, the mayor said that if there was any encroachment on reserved land or roads, action should be taken against it. However, immediate action is not required in other places.
“These constructions need to be stopped as soon as they start. However, then it is overlooked and then action is taken. That should not be the case”, said Mai Dhore.
