Pimpri Chinchwad, 24th June 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has removed 35 unauthorised stalls, paan kiosks and other encroachments from the vicinity of schools and colleges across the city as part of a special drive aimed at ensuring student safety and maintaining a conducive educational environment.

The anti-encroachment operation was carried out by the civic body’s Encroachment Removal Department in areas including Morwadi, Akurdi, Chinchwad, Jadhavwadi, Bhosari, Indrayaninagar, Kharalwadi, Landewadi, Dapodi, Old Sangvi and Thergaon.

During the drive, civic teams surveyed the areas surrounding educational institutions and removed 35 illegal structures. Several stall owners voluntarily dismantled their encroachments after receiving notices from the civic administration, officials said.

According to the municipal corporation, the initiative was undertaken to create a clean, safe and positive atmosphere around schools and colleges while curbing unauthorised commercial activities near educational institutions.

Officials said the drive was not limited to removing encroachments but was also aimed at promoting public health and creating tobacco-free surroundings. The Maharashtra government has issued directives from time to time to maintain government, semi-government and public spaces as tobacco-free zones.

In line with these directives, the PCMC said it would continue monitoring unauthorised commercial activities and other issues that may adversely affect students in and around educational institutions.

Necessary instructions have been issued to all concerned departments to ensure that students’ interests are not compromised,” said PCMC Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi.
