Shivajinagar, 26th August 2021: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) standing committee chairman Nitin Landge, who has been arrested in a bribery case, allegedly furnished false information to get bail.

Additional Sessions Judge SB Hedau rejected Ladge’s bail application and sent him to Yerwada Central Jail today. Landge had told the court that his grandmother had died while seeking bail. However, in reality, his father’s aunt has passed away. Public Prosecutor Ramesh Ghorpade pointed out to the court that he had misled the court by giving false information.

Landge had applied for bail, saying he wanted to attend the funeral of his grandmother. The application was approved and bail was granted till August 26. He has since been ordered to appear in court again. However, in reality, it was not Landge’s grandmother but his father’s aunt who died, Ghorpade informed the court.

If bail is granted to Landge, he is likely to put pressure on the complainant and witnesses. The 16 persons mentioned in the investigation, i.e. 16 members of the PCMC, are yet to be investigated. The important question that arises is, is there a racket between them and the arrested accused? This remains to be investigated. Therefore, Landge’s bail should be rejected, argued Ghorpade.

Landge, his PA Dnyaneshwar Kisanrao Pingale (56, resident of Bhosari), Arvind Bhimrao Kamble (resident of Bhimnagar, Pimpri), computer operator Rajendra Jaywant Shinde (resident of Thergaon, Wakad), and clerk Vijay Shambhulal Chawria (resident of Dharmarajnagar) were arrested in this case. All the accused have applied for bail. The application will be heard on Friday,27th August 2021.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Seema Mehendale of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is investigating the case.
