Pune, 1st April 2025: The Pune District Central Co-operative (PDCC) Bank has filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding old currency notes worth ₹22 crore that remain unaccepted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

According to PDCC Bank President Digambar Durgade, the RBI refused to accept the notes, citing a lack of storage space, leading to a significant financial setback for the bank. In response, the bank has taken legal action to resolve the issue.

“We have filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court, and the case is currently under review,” Durgade said, emphasizing that the currency is legitimate and must be accepted.

He expressed confidence that the central government would intervene and direct the RBI to accept the notes. Additionally, the bank has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, urging them to address the matter.
