Pune, 8th September 2023: The Pune Petrol Dealers Association has taken a significant step by reaching out to key authorities, including the Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and the Ministry of Finance. In a formal communication, they have requested much-needed clarification and guidelines regarding the deposition of 2000 rupee notes after the 30th of September.

The urgency stems from the fact that the banks will remain closed until the 2nd of October due to bank holidays. With the impending deadline, a rush of individuals seeking to deposit these notes is expected, primarily at petrol pumps. This surge in activity not only poses logistical challenges for the dealers but also raises concerns about providing change to customers during these transactions.

According to available information, only 93 percent of the 2000 rupee notes have been deposited thus far. The lack of clear guidelines for depositing these notes in banks post the 30th of September has left petrol dealers in a state of confusion and uncertainty.

As the 30th of September coincides with a Saturday, a day when banks typically function with reduced hours, dealers are apprehensive about their ability to complete the necessary transactions within the given timeframe.

Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Pune Petrol Dealers Association, emphasized the need for swift action. “Without further guidance and clarity on depositing procedures, the situation is becoming increasingly challenging for dealers. We urge the relevant authorities to release comprehensive guidelines urgently to mitigate potential disruptions and uncertainties.”

As the deadline approaches, both dealers and the general public await official communication from the authorities regarding the process for depositing 2000 rupee notes after the 30th of September, with hopes of avoiding any last-minute chaos or confusion.
