Camp, 8th September 2023: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has successfully dismantled three unauthorized hoardings situated on Defence Estate Office (DEO) land, which were generating millions in annual revenue through rentals to private companies.

On Friday, the revenue department and the anti-encroachment squad of the cantonment board joined forces to remove three substantial hoardings located at Bhairoba Nullah and Pul Gate. These hoardings, operating without proper permissions, were estimated to bring in approximately Rs 2 crore annually for their operators.

The accused parties had even illicitly connected to the MSEDCL power supply to illuminate these structures. PCB Chief Executive Officer Subrat Pal confirmed that these three large hoardings had been erected at strategic locations on defence land.

City-based citizen rights organizations have raised concerns about the illicit hoardings in the cantonment area, calling for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry into the matter. They have also pointed to the existence of a well-established network involved in the unlawful installation of hoardings on defence-owned properties.
