Pune: PhD Guide Arrested For Allegedly Accepting Rs 20,000 Bribe From Professor

Sangvi, 30th March 2024: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Pune has taken action against Dr. Shakuntala Nivritti Mane, a professor of economics with Baburaoji Gholap College in Sangvi, Pune. Dr. Mane, who also serves as a guide for PhD candidates appointed by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe.
Dr. Mane (59), holds the position of Professor (Class-1) in the Department of Economics at Baburaoji Gholap College. She is recognized as a PhD guide approved by SPPU. The alleged incident took place at the office of the Head of the Department of Economics, Baburaoji Gholap College, Sangvi, Pune.
According to the complaint filed, Dr. Mane demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a 40-year-old professor who had prepared an online thesis for SPPU to obtain a PhD degree in Economics. As part of the thesis submission process, Dr. Mane was appointed as the guide for the complainant.
Upon verification of the complaint by ACB, Dr. Mane was found to have demanded the bribe. Subsequently, she was arrested after accepting Rs 20,000 as the first installment of the bribe. A case has been registered against her at the Sangvi Police Station, Pimpri Chinchwad Police, under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudam Pachorkar is leading the investigation into the case, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (ACB-Pune range) Amol Tambe and Additional SP Dr. Sheetal Janve.
