Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Auto-Rickshaw Fares Rise; Minimum Fare Now Rs 30
Pune, 1st September 2026: Commuters using auto-rickshaws in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad now have to pay more, as the revised fare structure approved by the Pune District Regional Transport Authority (RTA) came into effect on September 1.
The new rates apply to authorised auto-rickshaws operating across Pune district. The decision was approved during an RTA meeting chaired by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi.
Minimum fare increased by ₹5
Under the revised tariff, passengers will now have to pay a minimum fare of ₹30 for the first 1.5 kilometres, up from ₹25 earlier.
The charge for every additional kilometre has also been increased, from ₹17 to ₹20.
The fare revision has been attributed to the rising operating expenses faced by auto-rickshaw operators, including fuel costs, vehicle maintenance and insurance premiums.
Fourth fare revision since 2021
The latest increase marks the fourth revision of auto-rickshaw fares in Pune since 2021.
The minimum fare stood at ₹18 in 2021 and has now reached ₹30. This represents an increase of about 67% over five years.
The revised tariff is expected to benefit approximately 1.5 lakh auto-rickshaw drivers operating in Pune district. However, the increase will also raise commuting expenses for passengers who rely on autorickshaws for daily travel.
Six months for meter recalibration
With the new tariff coming into force, auto-rickshaw meters will have to be recalibrated to reflect the revised rates.
Drivers have been given six months to complete the recalibration process.
Until the meters are updated, drivers will be required to keep the official fare chart displayed inside their vehicles. The measure is intended to help passengers check the applicable charges and reduce disagreements over fares.
