Pune: PMC Plans 75-Tonne Dry Waste Facility in Hadapsar to Handle Textile, Furniture Waste
Pune, 1st September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is considering a dedicated facility at Ramtekdi Industrial Estate in Hadapsar for processing dry waste that includes discarded textiles, furniture and other difficult-to-handle materials.
The proposed facility is intended to address waste such as rags, hosiery material, leather, mattresses and old furniture, for which the civic body currently lacks a dedicated processing system. According to the proposal, the absence of a specialised mechanism has contributed to the accumulation and dumping of such waste at different locations in the city, particularly during festivals and other large-scale celebrations.
A revised proposal seeking approval to entrust the project to Green Prithvi Solutions LLP under the B-2 model has been submitted to the PMC Standing Committee. The revised arrangement is estimated to involve a financial liability of around ₹74.06 crore for the civic body over the proposed contract period.
Facility planned at Ramtekdi
The proposed processing unit will come up on around one acre of the southern portion of an 11-acre reserved plot at Ramtekdi Industrial Estate, which falls under the Town Planning (TP) Scheme.
The facility is planned with a processing capacity of 75 metric tonnes of dry waste per day.
The initial proposal envisaged construction, operation and maintenance of the facility for 10 years, with an option to extend the contract by another five years. Under the earlier 15-year arrangement, the processing charges were proposed to increase by 9% annually.
Contractor to bear capital expenditure
The financial terms of the project have been revised following discussions between the civic administration and the proposed contractor.
Under the original arrangement, PMC was expected to spend approximately ₹10 crore towards capital expenditure, for which the Standing Committee had already granted approval.
Under the revised proposal, however, the contractor will bear the capital expenditure as well as expenses related to the facility’s operation, maintenance and repairs.
The annual escalation in processing charges has also been brought down from 9% to 7%. PMC estimates that the revised escalation rate could reduce its expenditure by approximately ₹18 crore.
The revised proposal has now been placed before the Standing Committee for consideration.
Project to be implemented in phases
According to the proposal, the project is planned to be implemented in phases between 2026-27 and 2046-47. An estimated ₹1.81 crore has been earmarked for the first year.
The civic administration expects the proposed facility to provide a long-term mechanism for handling discarded textile and furniture waste and reduce the dumping of such material in public spaces across Pune.
The proposal will now be considered by the PMC Standing Committee before further action is taken.
