Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch Seizes Opium Grown with Onion Crops in Dehu
Dehu Road, 27th February 2025: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested a man for cultivating opium in his onion field, seizing 218 opium plants valued at Rs 3.27 Lakhs. The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Crime Branch conducted the operation yesterday after receiving a tip-off about illegal opium cultivation within the jurisdiction of Dehu Road Police Station.
Dilip Chandrakant Kalokhe, 57, a resident of Dehu Village, was apprehended during a raid on his field located behind the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) wall in Kalokhe Mala and Hagawane Mala. The police team, led by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Patil, in charge of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, discovered opium plants mixed with onion crops.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandip Doiphode stated, “We have seized 218 flourishing opium plants with flowers and pods, estimated to be worth Rs 3,27,000. This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to eradicate drug-related activities in the city.”
The successful raid was carried out under the guidance of Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, who had directed a crackdown on illegal drug trade and complete eradication of narcotics in the Pimpri Chinchwad area. The operation involved a team of Anti-Narcotics Cell, including Assistant Police Inspectors Sachin Kadam and Vikram Gaikwad, along with Sub-Inspector Dnyaneshwar Dalvi and other police personnel.
